Last Halloween, many communities canceled trick-or-treat due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year, with an understanding that COVID-19 is less transmissible outdoors — with the caveat that avoiding crowds is important even when outside — most communities are scheduling trick-or-treat times.

In an appearance on ABC's "This Week," Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walensky emphasized that trick-or-treaters should stay outdoors.

"I wouldn't necessarily go to a crowded Halloween party," she added. "But I think that we should be able to let our kids go trick-or-treating in small groups."

The delta variant does mean that COVID-19 is more contagious than the virus was last Halloween, so masking up is never a bad idea, especially among kids who are not vaccinated yet.

Here are this year's trick-or-treat times in Milwaukee area communities.
